Land of the free and home of the brave....
I am on my way!
Finally the day came. I put on my amazing American outfit and put my small American flag in my back pack. Wrapped myself in my American scarf and walked towards adventure..
Arrival....
I arrived at EF late friday night september 13th 2019. The weather was warm and the sounds of summer were still in the air. I got to the school and was showed to my room by a grumpy man, who probably was a bit angry with me arriving so late. I got to the room that I would call my home the next 5 months.
I was excited and exhausted but ready to speak English and to explore this new land and meet new people. I was so excited that I multiple times tried to start conversations with the grumpy man that in the kindest way tried to cut them short. I took it is a clear signal and tried to keep it down.
But there I was. In my new room. I had no roomies yet, so I had the whole place to myself. Very weird….
I went to bed. My first night. Could already taste the freedom and the famous American dream.
The picture is from my room. Obviously taken at a later date because of the wonderful people in it. But just to get a gist of how my room looked.
New York - here I am
Obviously the very first urge in all new New York students is to take the Metro North straight to Manhattan. That was exactly the same for me. Already one day after i arrived i went to Manhattan.
And as you read this you need to be prepared to hear the same dozens of times. New York is special. The city lives, it is filled with life and talent it has the most amazing atmosphere. Just walking around is enough. No need to do anything special but observing and enjoying this feeling of being in the center of the world is more than enough.
I went to the city a couple of times just in the first week. Simply because it was close and just amazing. At the same time, this was a chance to meat a lot of new friends. It was an amazing time but also exhausting constantly speaking a second language.
These first days also made room for exploration of the village we lived in. Because Tarrytown turned out to be an amazing place exceeding a lot of my expectations.

Exploring Tarrytown
EF campus was not located in the center of Manhattan but in a charming village 45 minutes north of the city centre along the Hudson River. These first days also gave room to explore the village life and the beautiful parks and nature in and around Tarrytown.
