Philadelphia - October 2019
First: a 5 hour bus ride...
On October 5th I took the bus with my two very good friends Kajsa and Theo.
I was super excited. Because Philadelphia is the birth place of everything we know as America today. It was here the declaration of independence was written. It was here the constitution was written. It was here the founding father got drunk and debated politics in formal and informal settings. All determined to create a country with new values where everyone was born equal and had the right to the pursuit of happiness. The history of this city triggered the nerd in me. I will now take you with me on our trip.
First step: a five hour bus ride.
Arrival
After what felt like a 10 hour busride in a good old yellow American school bus we arrived. All in good spirits despite the fact that our backs and asses hurt a lot because of the super uncomfortable bus. So I can tell you than the yellow school buses have a lot of charm you quickly change opinion when you get to actually drive with one.
Nevertheless! We got to Philly and we were excited and ready to explore this historic city.
Liberty Bell
Okay so this trip didn’t disappoint and already at the first stop I was overly excited. This bell was the bell that hang at the church in which the declaration of independence and constitution was written. It rang when the founding fathers finally came to an agreement of the new country they wanted to create.
Later the bell have had a significant meaning to the civil rights movement and a clear symbol of freedom and the values the US after all these years still claim to live by.
First Congress
Next stop on the tour wa the old congress building. Philadelphia was originally the capitol of the US before Washington DC took over. And today the old congress building is still standing. Some of it is reconstructions and other things are the actual thing from back then.
This is a picture of the old congress. In the middle you see the chair that George Washington sat in. The very first president of this new nation.
